Jim Curtis’ commercial construction career has spanned over 36 years specializing in commercial and retail construction and development. He began his commercial construction career in 1982 specifically in the petroleum industry. His original corporate clients included the following:

  • Chevron
  • Gulf Oil
  • Exxon
  • MAPCO Petroleum
  • Williams Travel Centers

​​This experience led Jim to work for a large development company out of Jackson, MS. His job as Chief Development Manager for the firm gave him the opportunity to renovate and develop Shell Corporate Convenient Stores in the Memphis, TN area. These highly successful operators were sold as a package to BP stores less than two years after completion. In 1988, Jim founded Tri‐State Contractors, Inc. He owned and managed this company until 2009. Projects included the following:

  • Office Buildings
  • Rental Centers
  • Multi‐Use Rental Buildings
  • Apartments

Jim and his son Chad Curtis founded a new company in 2010, Great Western Builders, Inc. With his many petroleum industry contacts, Jim has been able to branch out and partner with major oil companies to operate and develop convenient stores. Over just the last 8 years, with several partnerships, he has developed, managed and sold over $75 Million worth of commercial properties including the following:

  • Horizon Travel Plazas
  • Wendy’s
  • Dairy Queens
  • Backyard Burgers
  • Pizza Huts
  • Circle K Convenience Stores
  • Pilot Travel Centers
  • Various fast food operations
